Tony Joe White song. Jerry Reed had a good version of it too.

Mine is one of Elvis' Christmas songs.

And non-Christmas song is this one:

For me it would be between Jailhouse Rock, Hounddog, or That's Alright.

No. He was so bound up from all the pills he was trying for three hours and blew a gasket trying to push one out.

                              As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
                              In the ghetto
                              (In the ghetto)
                              And his mama cries
'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
It is another hungry mouth to feed
                              In the ghetto
                              (In the ghetto)
                              People, don't you understand
The child needs a helping hand
Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me
Are we too blind to see?
Do we simply turn our heads
                              And look the other way
                              Well, the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
                              In the ghetto
                              (In the ghetto)
                              And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
                              In the ghetto
                              (In the ghetto)
                              Then one night in desperation
                              The young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car
Tries to run, but he don't get far
                              And his mama cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
Face down on the street with a gun in his hand
                              In the ghetto
                              (In the ghetto)
And as her young man dies
                              (In the ghetto)
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
Another little baby child is born

Nick Zepp was only half wrong though.

The best thing Elvis ever did was die. The "Fat Elvis" period wasn't doing his career any favors. Dude's popularity was sinking like a rock in the mid '70s. His "comeback" in 1968 had basically played itself out. But damn, his comeback after being dead was even more amazing.

As far as songs go. Didn't really dig the old stuff that much. Liked "Hunka, Hunka Burnin' Love" because it was top 40 in my formative years... and I kind of liked the theme from "Viva Las Vegas"... from his movie period.

He’s the guy that sells more music dead than others do alive. He sold out any show he ever did. Tell the gazillion folks that jammed Memphis after his death and have flocked there to visit for almost 50 years.

Doesn't Elvis still hold the record for most albums charted after death? May have been passed by others since then. One of his last shows was at the LNC.

IMO Elvis' best stuff was 1955 until he went into the Army. He didn't get as good quality songs after that. He had an occasional song after his Army days that was pretty good, but for my taste, his best songs were the ones he made when he rose to stardom, and became an international mega-star. Songs such as this one:

I watch a dude on YouTube named Rick Beato. He's around our age and is a musician, producer etc. He had a video last week talking about the most popular artist on spotify. The most monthly listeners was The Weeknd. I can see that because he's popular with the yunguns. #2 was Ed Sheeran.

Ed Sheeran, guys. What is wrong with people?

Beato has a cool channel. I like his "what makes this song so great" series.

I think I originally subbed to Beato back when he was mostly using his channel to educate students instead of his opinions on music he likes. He had something like a few hundred subs. Weird how the algorithm at YT works.

My favorite song of his was Gospel. Run On, a cover of Noah, from the Jubalaires. Johnny Cash also did a cover of it, God’s Going To Cut You Down.
