    Ozark Season 4

Do we not have an Ozark thread? This has been one of my favorite shows of the past few years, and I hate to see it ending, but the first half of the final season has been a banger!!

It's been so long between seasons, though, I had to go back and do some refreshing on a few plot lines.

Agreed, off to a good start.

Yep, some more shocking deaths this season. But I still kinda half expect Ben (killed in season 3) to show back up - they did not show him being killed, and never showed his dead body. And I get the sense that Wendy might not survive, she has embraced the criminal life so much, seems to be building toward a death match between her and Ruth.

I was thinking as I was watching that Ruth is the only one that's going to come out alive in the end. (Maybe the kids too, who wants to see kids die a horrible death...)

It's slower for sure...it's good, but it's been a letdown sort of thru about 3 episodes.

Finished the series today, definitely a bit disappointed by a death, overall good wrap up.

3 Episodes in... I don't want to see it end.

I thought the minivan crash was unnecessary. 4 people don't come out of a crash like that unscathed. At least two of them would have serious injuries. But hey it's Hollywood, so I get it.

I took it as a bit of symbolism.

It was a plot device - traumatic harrowing experience that the family went through together served to heal their fracture and make them come together again as a family unit.

Ben reappearing would have made Wendy giving the goat cookie jar to Ruth (ruthlessly) devious and quite a bit ahead of the true conflict between them.

                          As to the ending.

I am more than curious, as a result of the next to last death (the last witnessed one), if a legally executed will was in place.

I took it like that too, but I thought they could have picked a better scenario. Also, I thought the writing in the second half of season 4 got sloppy. It was kind of a letdown. Marty as a cartel boss in Mexico? gimmie a break. It's as if they didn't know how to end the series.

                              My first thought as well.

Ruth bought the cookie jar herself, and it was Jonah not Wendy who gave her Ben's ashes. But it's a moot point, as Ben was in fact dead, they showed him being killed in a backstory scene.

SPOILERRuth's murder churns up what would have been a cozy ending. With her dead the cartel still needs the casino to launder money but the only person qualified is Marty. So Marty at least now wont be allowed to leave.

To me the ending was good, not great. Certainly better than the ending to Dexter when you're talking about great shows.

But Marty doesn’t own the majority stake, Ruth did, right? Hence all the laundering pressure on Marty when she inherited the Snell position.

Who now inherits Ruth’s estate and can maintain or acquire the casino license?

No clue, but there was a 4 way deal* between the Byrds, Ruth, the cartel, and the FBI and everyone was going to live happily ever after. Ruths part was to continue laundering for the cartel through the casino while the FBI agreed to look the other direction.

Well now that crucial part of the deal is dead and the cartel would now presumably just force Marty right back into being their launderer. So in the end, the Byrds didnt escape. The way I see it.

Edit - actually a 5 way deal if you factor in Claire and her pharma conpany.
