Whereas lots of 'black' folks may not have access to their actual ethnic history and just need to rely on a color-based identity that got assigned to them historically. The same is true for other non-'white' folks to a lesser degree.

I think that is a big mistake. As the article states that only 6% of the student body is black it's basically saying why change our ways just to pacify a handful of minorities.
