Players Tribune - Lincoln Riley "Sometimes Life Throws You a Curveball"
Eat a bag of dicks, Lincoln. Why he still craves approval from Oklahoma is beyond me. He took on the role of a villain when he left, and he has moments when he played that role well. Embrace it, Linc...you sorry sack of shit.
The real question is...as time goes by, which of these two coaches be viewed more favorably? Riley or Howard Schnellenberger?

I remember Schnelly refused to recruit Louisville recruits because he first recruited them on Louisville's dime. So, in my book: Schnellenberger > TBOW
It was clear from my opening press conference at the Coliseum that the Trojan faithful were hungry to get this program back to the top of the collegiate football landscape.

Just come out and tell the truth. There were three very simple factors.
1. You didn’t like the direction of the program. Be it administration moves, conference realignment, TV money or something else… you honestly feel in your heart and mind SC is better in this category.
2. You have a slimy agent who used the program that made you to steal a record-setting contract.
3. You honestly think certain aspects of your job will be easier in LA. Be it recruiting, cheating with SC alumnus money “NIL” benefits or you just wanted to stay in a lame duck conference without a power player on SC’s level— which leads us back to point no. 1.
Ultimately, you bitched out. You, every player, recruit and coach who left. Better hope that bottomless well doesn’t have the same issues counterproductive to football operations that the program in Austin does.
Riley didn't receive some of the things that he wanted for the program, and he was left out of the decision process on moving OU to the SEC,
This has been talked about and speculated on for since he left.
Given this last season's poor play from the first game, there is a good chance Riley knew he wasn't going to return because he was pissed off over the above.
Upon initial reading I did feel that he was being fairly genuine. I'll choose to believe the part about him wishing he could do some things over again.
With that said, almost immediately I thought of how manipulative he is and how he tried to burn down OU on the way out. I'll bet he's getting negative recruiting and families are mentioning it to the point that either he, his agent, or the AD, said release a statement.

Especially with the recent comments from former players like Spenser and Isiah, i guarantee he was told to "put something out that paints a good picture of you".
Nothing new - you saw an opportunity, but why was that opportunity not at OU? As soon as someone wants to start spilling the beans on what happened all season, then all of this is just a big nothing-burger.
But the timing of this letter is odd - this wreaks of "please forgive me and accept my decisions". Just like you didn't all season, you shouldn't care what we think at this point. If you truly love your new place, own it. California is lovely. If you think you made an impulse mistake, too bad. You still own it. No need to look back.
Doesn't seem like it...the view doesn't hurt either
If he was recruiting for the usc bowling team I’d be impressed but nobody in this picture says “athlete” FUCK snake eyes Riley and any asswipe who approves of his bitch ass..
BOOMER!
What an attention whore. Been in Hollywood less than 6 months and already begging others to listen to his bullshit. I wonder if Cowherd took a break from bobbin apples under Riley’s desk to help him write that pitiful letter.

This right here. Rattler and Stogner peeled back the curtain back a bit and talked about the toxicity. He’s trying to cover his ass. Puts out a bullshit puff piece just like the dipshits in Hollywood do when they get exposed
I have yet to watch an interview or read anything this douchbag has said. There are right ways to do things and wrong ways to do things and there was the way Lincoln did things.
I can tell you definitively that if it was up to LR, he would have put OU on probation and then left. We are lucky we had compliance watching over him. He will have USC on probation in a few years after he leaves for the NFL.

An article like this would actually mean something if he even hinted at that kind of conflict. If OU really wasn’t willing to invest and expand the staff before the conference move the way they are now, it could be bad for one’s job security at a place that expects 10 wins. We don’t want scared coaches here, and it still doesn’t excuse half-assing what should’ve been a title run, but it makes a whole lot more sense than, what, burning OU to the ground on a few hours’ notice so your girls can go (or if anyone within 100 miles has coughed in the last 24 hours, not go) to a more expensive and more ideologically bonkers private school? It at least wouldn’t insult our intelligence.
He could’ve done an interview with a local reporter to explain things. Instead he wrote some puff piece so he could control the narrative and not face any questions. He is a narcissist but he’s also weak minded because he can’t be a man and face what he did. He’s hiding behind layers of PR. He doesn’t want to take questions or answer for how he left.
He’s a bitch. He’s not man enough to answer for his own actions. He took the easier path like the bitch that he is. Good riddance. OU is in much better hands with better days ahead. I hate the way it went down, but the end result is a huge victory for OU football.
