  • The Ultimate Fighter (and other MMA things)

Didn’t see a thread on this, so I started one. If anyone likes UFC, they are about to start filming the next Ultimate Fighter, and the rumored (mostly confirmed coaches) are going to make this a good season.

this is way more fun the the Contender Series, at least in my opinion…

To each their own. Far be it from me to say what one should or shouldn’t like. I had a gf in Vegas that was a ring girl and she wanted me to come see her. Got me up close. Just not my cup of tea. I’m not a brutality type of guy.

I used to watch some boxing. I went to two fights in Vegas. One was the Fan Man. The other was the DeLahoya/Chavez fight where Oscar turned the guy’s face into hamburger. Chavez was covered in blood from head to toe. After that I just couldn’t watch.

I always liked boxing, unfortunately the “promoters” really put a damper on that. UFC has come along way from it’s brutal “roots”, but I can see why folks don’t always enjoy it. One of the guys who is going into the “fighter house” this season is a friend, so it’s going to be kind of cool to watch (plus, the coaches are both entertaining).

If you aren’t the “typical UFC fan, you might enjoy One Championship- it airs on Prime. Each card usually has Thai boxing, MMA, and submission grappling. Really pretty cool to see the different skill in each different type of fight.

If they ever do a senior edition, are you going to try out?
If you are yet to be SECtarded, you aren't trying hard enough. Slykology.

Don't have the energy for all that.

              By the way, L2.

I am wanting to go to Vegas sometime this year and catch a fight or MMA. You ever been to the Apex? I hear its pretty cool place to watch a show.

It is, but Apex is an EXPENSIVE ticket, because they are very limited. And hard to get…

there is a fight night happening in March at the theater at Virgin (which is obviously smaller than t mobile arena) and more intimate. Merab D vs Peter Yan for the main event - should be a great fight.

                    Uh. Huh.

                    Never even get that close.

Checked out the Virgin for that fight. Looks like a great venue. tickets are limited, as I suspect they get grabbed up quickly.

You can still get in for less than 500.

I wanted boxing but my brother really wants MMA and I get to watch live boxing in Houston all the time.

                    I'll keep an eye out

Fury FC is another MMA league that is a partner with the UFC. They had an event recently that has gained a ton of attention. Unfortunately, that attention is due to the fact that a referee went viral for not calling the fight when it was very clearly over. Dana White now responds. Doesn't interest me anymore. Used to, and I've been to many fights (boxing, not MMA), but it's just meh anymore. Shitty boxing at the heavier weights and all the MMA crap has ruined boxing. Looking WAAAAAAY back? Ali started the ruination of the sport with his crapola, but it took decades to finally get just meh. Everybody has to have a schtick and talk shit and be a pimp or something.

The last really interesting boxer was Mike Tyson. Yeah, it's that bad. I know, there's tons of little guys who were great. Maybe there still are, but nobody wants to see a couple 130 pounders going at it. Well they do cause they're very skilled, but nah, it's not the same as a couple guys at 225 throwing leather skillfully. Lighter fighters like Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Hector Camacho, Manny Pacquiao, Duran, Floyd Mayweather and a couple others were all worth watching and masters of their sport, but heavies is where the sport has to have superstars to thrive.

Yes, this is just my opinion. Therefore it is fact. To me.

One thing I do have to say though is you do not want to sit ringside at any fight. Unless you really like sweat, blood, and body fluids sprayed all over your face and in your drink. It's amazing how much shit flies when a guy gets tagged after they're good and lathered up.

When I was a kid, I loved to watch the Olympic boxing. US trials and actual Olympics. The 1968 Mexico City Olympics is my first memory of it.

I love boxing, but you’re right - not a lot of good fights left.

if you have Amazon prime, I recommend checking my out “One Championship Fights” on demand, or the live events that are free.

each card has multiple fight styles: submission grappling, kickboxing, Thai boxing, and MMA. And they are all really good (if you appreciate the science and sport, not just “KILL HIM!!”)

The first ever “One Championship” in the United States is taking place in Colorado on Friday night - and is free to watch on Amazon Prime. I highly recommend Slytherin and Stinger_1066 check it out if you have a chance. Several really good MMA and submission grappling fights on the card.
