Some of the older fans here might remember Richard Sanders, a guy from Portland State in the late 60's who was always exciting to watch and a great wrestler. I can only imagine how good he could have been if he had gone to a top wrestling school like OU. Here's him in a freestyle match in the Olympics in 1972 representing the USA. He won this match to finish up, but came in second in the Olympics that year. The Japanese wrestler at Sanders' weight actually beat Sanders. I would love to have seen that match, because it was hard for me to believe anyone could beat him.

I don't know if OU will ever get back to that, probably not. But, gosh damn I wish they could be relevant. Side Note: We are friends with Pup Simmons Dad, and Pup left Iowa St, OU is one of the schools he is looking at. Also, Gary Wayne Harding (OSU and CVILLE GRAD) is transferring from OSU possibly for this 5th year.

It goes without saying that our Softball, Men’s & Women’s Gymnastics programs have become national powers/monsters in the 2000’s. Men’ Golf is coming off a national Championship and are currently ranked #6 in the nation this season.
Men’s Tennis were national runners-up constantly under formed Coach Roddick. Under new Coach Crowell, they have slipped down somewhat,(still in the Top 15-20 range), but won the doubles national championship last season,(first ever national championship in program history).
Point being, with the right coaching hire, staff & recruiting; Oklahoma could become relevant again easily,(possibly more). With baseball appearing to finally back on the right path,(fingers crossed, but am enjoying what it has done this season so far), I’m hoping AD Joe Castiglione focuses on the storied wrestling program next.

So here is what my little guy has on tap: Pop N Flo Duals in NY, NHSCA Virginia Beach both these in May and then Pueblo CO in June. These are all duals, and NHSCA's are probably the toughest, but not sure. I have decided to make him wrestle up in weight, because I want him growing, and I hope that was not a mistake. I am a little nervous it could hurt him and his confidence if he takes some losses, but we will see. He was 91-3 last year, 2 of the losses were in OT and 1 he bumped up a weight division and got beat in the finals. LOTS of weight room this summer, got to try and get some good weight on him.

NORMAN — Oklahoma wrestling head coach Lou Rosselli welcomed the addition of three wrestlers to the Sooner program on Friday in Jacob Butler, Brett Campbell and Kayne MacCallum.
Butler, from Elgin, Okla., signs with the Sooners following a 41-11 career record at Elgin High School, notching 20 career wins by fall and 16 by technical fall. Butler most recently won the Oklahoma Class 4A State Championship at 138 pounds in 2018, along with state titles in 2016 and 2017.
“Jacob is an Oklahoma kid and a three-time state champion," said assistant coach Mike Lightner. "We are excited to have him on the team because of his amazing talent and great upside. We look forward to having him train in an elite environment with great workout partners to see him reach his fullest potential."
MacCallum joins the Sooners after spending four years at Eastern Michigan University. A Libertyville, Ill., native, MacCallum won the 2018 Mid-American Conference title at 184 pounds, qualifying for the NCAA Championships, and he placed second as a freshman at the Eastern Michigan Open. In 2017-18, he totaled 17 overall wins and finished with a 10-6 record in duals.
“We’re excited with the addition of Kayne to our program. He’s a MAC Champion and an NCAA qualifier," said assistant coach Nick Heflin. "He will be a great addition for our upperweights and I’m excited to work with him."
Campbell, of Lee's Summit, Mo., will be a welcome addition to the Sooners following an illustrious high school career at Summit Christian Academy. Campbell posted a career 89-17 record with 51 pins and 15 wins by technical fall at Summit Christian en route to the Missouri Class 1 District 4 title in both 2017 and 2018 at 182 pounds and 220 pounds, respectively.
In the classroom, Campbell has maintained a 3.9 GPA while earning Academic All-State honors in 2017. He also earned All-State honors in football.
“Brett is an outstanding student that has been undefeated in his last two seasons in high school," Rosselli said. "He will be a great addition to our program and I look forward to working with him."
Also joining the Sooners for the 2018-19 campaign are Jaryn Curry, Tommy Hoskins, Josiah Jones, Anthony Madrigal and Jordan Rosselli, all of whom signed to Oklahoma in November.
Curry and Hoskins finished their high school careers as three-time state champions in Oklahoma and Ohio, respectively. Jones was a two-time state runner-up while at Bishop McCourt High School in Johnstown, Pa. Madrigal was a 2015 Fargo All-American and two-time runner-up at the Illinois State Championship. Rosselli, son of head coach Lou Rosselli, won the 2017 Liberty Classic and finished fourth-place at the 2017 Ohio State Championships.

Looks like the Oklahoma RTC has guys competing freestyle in the US Open at the end of this month.
Dom Demas 70kg
Hunter Jump 70kg (currently a high school junior)
Anthony Mantanona 79kg
Matt Waddell 86kg
Jake Woodley 92kg
Jake Boyd 97kg
Also, Tommy Hoskins is an incoming Freshman and wrestling unattached at 57kg
I'm interested to see how they do and am glad to see guys competing over the summer. I think the RTC is really going to help us get back to a top 10 program quickly.
