6'4" 250 lbs, just like David Hicks. Interestingly, Jay Valai was his primary recruiter ... for Bama.

Looks like he pushed back his decision to fall which with all the coaching changes is smart. He can better see which programs fit better. I know we have Evers coming and of course we’ll know about Dart and CW too. Have to think a delay helps OU in this game of highly regarded recruits as our staff will be stable and can see results on the field in Sep.

Sooners offer 2023 four-star RB Justice Haynes out of Georgia
While the defensive recruiting has made a major splash lately with offers sent out to some of the very best defenders of the 2023 and 2024 classes, the playmakers on offense need to continue their renovation under Jeff Lebby’s system.
With that being said, the Oklahoma Sooners went ahead and sent out an offer to 2023 running back Justice Haynes of Roswell, Georgia. Haynes is a four-star across all major recruiting services and is a consensus top-100 player.
Haynes receives an OU offer after not having received one under the previous regime making this an entirely new race the Sooners’ staff will have to run to earn his commitment.
Haynes is a well-built 5-foot-10 running back who was named a 2019 Max Preps Freshman All-American. He also plays baseball as well. For Oklahoma and specifically OU running backs coach DeMarco Murray, they are entering into this late with the home team in the Georgia Bulldogs firmly entrenched in the thick of it all. Ohio State also seems to have some positive momentum as well.
Currently, the Sooners have no running backs committed to their 2023 class. With the likelihood of OU running back Eric Gray leaving following this upcoming 2022 season, there’s one more space in the Sooners’ running back room that opens up.
The Sooners will have their work cut out for them for his services, but it’s a battle worth fighting for as the Sooners need to continue to add to their running back room yearly. With none currently committed in the 2023 class, Oklahoma can sell guys on some potential opportunities.
The Sooners recently offered 2023 running back Cedric Baxter who plans to visit Norman before the end of January as well. With the Sooners making it known which running backs are firmly on their board for this class, watch for them to apply pressure on the recruiting trail and try to generate some positive momentum and get guys in for visits and continue to develop a relationship before hopefully landing a commitment.

Reported by TFB of 01/21-
LB Anthony Hill (6’2 225) out of Denton, TX will be making his way to Norman. Five Star linebacker.
This is a new one for us, as James has also heard that OU will be getting a visit from ’23 DL David Hicks (6’4 250) out of Allen, TX. Some heavy hitters on the OU staff made their way down to see Hicks this week as Todd Bates, Brent Venables, and Jay Valai all made the trip. Hicks is a Five Star DL.

He really went out there and said “When has OU been in the mix for a guy like this.” Then had to go find a recruiting service that had Dindy as a high 4 star rather than a 5 star when people called him out.
There have also been crystal balls in for OU with Overton who’s a 5 star DL for a looong time.

The demise of QBU has been greatly exaggerated as the Sooners picked up a huge commit from ’23 QB Jackson Arnold (6’1 195) out of Denton (Guyer), TX!
Arnold was a priority for Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby.
Lebby actually extended the OU offer to Arnold on the same day he was officially announced as the new offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.
The dynamic between Lebby and Arnold is relatively new for Oklahoma fans, however, Lebby had been recruiting Arnold heavily while he was at Ole Miss.
Our guy Darius views Arnold as the top QB in the state of Texas for the ’23 class and he had this to say about the signal caller:
‘Super competitive kid that comes from a high-quality program. He consistently displays moxie out on the field when things break down and he’s got a lot of that “it” factor to him that folks love to talk about.
Probably the most mobile QB that OU has landed since Kyler Murray (I think he’s a better outright athlete than a guy like Caleb Williams) and he’s accurate as a passer. Good, not great arm. A lot of similarities to a guy like Conner Weigman. In what is looking like a bit of a down year at the position in-state, I think he’s a clear cut above the others being talked about right now.’
Really nice pickup for OU as they look to jumpstart the ’23 class.
OU currently has 3 commits in the ’23 class including Arnold. WR DeAndre Moore and OL Joshua Bates remained committed following the departure of the previous head coach.
The addition of Arnold should also help the Sooners in attracting several other high priority targets, particularly from around the talent rich Dallas/North Texas area. As we have mentioned, he is teammates with ’23 safety target Peyton Bowen (currently committed to ND) and LB Anthony Hill is also from Denton (Ryan) and is familiar with Arnold. Add in guys like David Hicks, Ashton Cozart, Ryan Yaites (No OU offer yet but he’s at Guyer), CB Javion Toviano, Chance Rucker (No OU offer yet but he is from Ryan), OL Markis Deal, and Isaiah Robinson, to name a few…yeah there is a lot of talent in that region.
On another note, since taking the reins as offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby has reeled in 3 QBs. Dillon Gabriel chose to transfer into OU, ’22 QB Nick Evers was a quick add in the class as he jumped at the opportunity to hook up with Lebby and now Arnold joins the room.
Pretty impressive work in just about a month and a half on the job from Lebby.
